5th Grade

Language Arts:

reading comprehension, speed reading, vocabulary building, writing skills, oral presentations, reports, and diagramming all eights parts of speech.

Math:

decimals, fractions, computation, measurements, converting measures, factoring, divisibility rules, squares and square roots, graphs and charts, geometry, probability, statistics, and algebra.

Science:

mammals. vertebrates, force and motion, electricity and magnetism, engines,light, water, weather, geology, oceanography, and astronomy.

Social Studies:

creation to birth of Christ

6th Grade

Language Arts:

reading comprehension,vocabulary building, dictionary skills, diagramming all eight parts of speech, creative writing, and oral presentations.

Math:

place value of whole numbers and decimals, roman numerals, rounding, English and metric measurements, computations, estimates, ration and proportions, percent, probability, graphs and scales drawings, statistics, geometry, perimeter and area, circumference, bisecting angles, converting Celsius to Fahrenheit, algebra, latitude and longitude.

Science:

plants, invertebrates, earth and space, matter, and chemistry.

Social Studies:

map studies, and American history to 1865.

Health:

first aid and anatomy.

7th Grade

Language Arts:

reading works of literature, comprehension, diagramming of sentences, research writing, book reports.

Math:

Pre- Algebra

Science:

plants, the body, health, mammals, birds, classification, fish, reptiles, amphibians, insects, arthropods.

Social Studies:

world history birth of Christ to 1900's.

Keyboarding:

typing techniques,

software applications

8th Grade

Language Arts:

reading works of literature, diagramming sentences, oral presentations, and research papers.

Math:

Algebra 1

Science:

geology, minerals and rocks, oceans, weather, and space.

Social Studies:

The Constitution and American History 1865-present.

Research Paper:

steps to writing a research paper including notecards, bibliographies, and proper formatting.

Writing Workshop:

various types of writing as well as appropriate grammar and sentence structure.

Careers:

applications, various occupations, resumes, and proper interviewing skills.
